Pearce has several life-limiting conditions including a heart condition, Downs Syndrome and severe learning difficulties. Pearce’s dream was to go to Walt Disney World in Florida. Pearce wanted to go to Disney World to meet his favourite character Mickey Mouse but to also meet some of his family who had flown over from New Zealand to meet them half way. It was the first time Pearce had ever met his family that live on the other side of the world.
When Peace got to meet Mickey Mouse at the Magic Kingdom he gave him a huge hug. He chatted to Mickey and waved lots, Pearce was so happy! Pearce loved every moment of his trip to Disney World. Elaine, Pearce’s Mum, couldn’t pick out just one highlight of the trip, she described the whole experience as ‘memorable and something really special.’ When the family went to watch the Frozen Show they were moved to tears as they watched Pearce’s face light up with the magic of Disney.
Pearce loved the Magic Kingdom so much they the family went back to the park for a second day. They saw the Festival of Fantasy Parade and went on more rides. Pearce loved The Little Mermaid ride so much that he didn’t want to get off it so the kind staff at Disney just let him go round again. Pearce is very visual so he really liked the Toy Story ride and ‘It’s a Small World’ with all the colours. Elaine was really surprised with how much Pearce loved Splash Mountain as she thought he wouldn’t like the log flume but he LOVED the big splash at the end and couldn’t stop smiling!
Before the family left they brought a bauble from the Disney Christmas shop so that every Christmas it can hang on the tree and they will remember the special time they had together in Florida.
Pearce and his family had an amazing time and they made some truly magical memories together.
Elaine said “We had a fantastic time, it was really wonderful! Thank you so much. Pearce still talks about Mickey every day and asks to see the pictures. We are so grateful as we just couldn’t have done it without you. I remember thinking “I can’t believe we’re here!” I’m really glad we had the opportunity to go and spend some fun time together as a family.” Elaine, Pearce’s Mum.
