James is 18-years-old and lives in Huddersfield.  James has a chromosomal abnormality which means James has some severe learning difficulties resulting at times in challenging behavioural problems. He is also on medication to manage his epilepsy. James is unable to draw, read or write.

Due to the severity of his condition, James is very childlike. He is unable to play games - he can’t partake in board games or things like tennis or even ride a bike. Occupying James can be very difficult as he has a very limited attention span. James spends much of his time in a residential facility.

James’ favourite activity is watching Disney movies and his favourite film is Finding Nemo. So it made sense that James’ dream was to have a family holiday to Florida to go to Disney World and all the theme parks so that he can go on the rides with his older brother.

“Before we left for Florida James received a lovely card from Dreams Come True with £20 in telling him to buy himself something as a reminder on his dream. He bought a Disney princess with a skirt that spins when you press a button. (He also bought a spare as they don't last forever!). We thought the card was a particularly nice touch. We also received a pack prior to departure with helpful tips and advice for our family holiday.

James was brilliant on the flight, watching his Disney DVDs which he loves. The time difference took a bit of getting used to but he coped really well. We spent 3 fantastic weeks visiting all the Disney parks and Universal parks. James loved every minute, laughing clapping and giggling on the rides and at the various shows we went to see. His smile and laughter makes us all smile. It's the only way he can communicate.

Dreams Come True enabled us to take a carer from James residential facility with us to support James as his father has arthritis in the spine and can't physically help anymore. She loved seeing James experience so much and was amazed at the many different things he was capable of.

We want to thank Dreams Come True for supporting us throughout this process and hope that they can continue to make many more children with life limiting conditions dreams come true. It really does mean a lot to the whole family!” Beverley, James’ Mum
