22-year-old Karla is a brave young woman from Wiltshire who has been fighting a brain and spinal tumour. Her treatments mean that Karla has had a difficult time the past few years and her future is uncertain. One thing however is always guaranteed to make Karla’s day better - music.

Karla has always adored music and, since her sight has started to deteriorate, music has now become even more special, as it’s something she can still enjoy no matter how she is feeling.

One event that Karla has always loved watching is the Royal Variety Performance. To attend a live show would be thrilling and definitely a real dream come true!

Karla’s mum, Julia, contacted us before her dream to say that Karla hasn’t smiled much over the past two years, but the excitement about her dream put a huge smile on her face! As the night drew nearer and the run-up got shorter, Karla was so excited to hear announcements as to who would be performing.

The evening itself definitely did not disappoint! Robbie Williams performed a Christmas song that he’d previously sung with Nicole Kidman. As Nicole was unavailable that evening, David Walliams took her place, making for a hilarious duet! Then when Gary Barlow took to the stage to perform a piece from his musical ‘Girls’, all the fans sitting in the stalls were handed sunflowers to wave along to the music. It was a strange but impressive sight - Karla can’t wait to see how that looks on TV!

Afterwards, Karla and Julia attended the after-show banquet. The after-show party was held at an enormous hotel and there were over 850 people in attendance! Here even more entertainment followed, with magicians, a Motown group and a performance from George Sampson from Britain’s Got Talent. There was a lovely atmosphere and Karla and her mum really enjoyed meeting the other people at the party. Karla is now making a photo album full of memories so she can remember her dream night at the Royal Variety Performance.

Karla’s dream was made even more special thanks to the kindness of the Royal Variety Charity and Firmdale Hotel Group. The Royal Variety Charity kindly donated two tickets to the performance. Firmdale Hotel Group generously donated a stay at their Number 16 Hotel in Kensington, where Karla and her mum were able to unwind in style after their incredible night.

“It was amazing - thank you! It was all so good that it’s too hard to choose just one favourite bit!” Karla
