Life altered for 22-year-old Ian from Hertfordshire when he discovered he had a malignant brain tumour. The brave young man underwent brain surgery and intensive radiotherapy, in order to fight his tumour. Although he is now in remission and beginning to recover, Ian is still having regular scans and is also waiting to see a specialist with regards to his hair loss and regrowth. This serves as a constant reminder to everything that he went through, meaning that Ian’s illness is still very much a part of his life.

Understandably, Ian appreciates any opportunity to just get away from all of ‘that’, even for only a short time. And what better way to do so than a holiday?!

Ian’s dream escape came true when he cruised around the Caribbean with his family and a close friend for two weeks!

After his treatment initially finished and he was well enough to travel, Ian’s family took him on a cruise to Norway, to give Ian a much needed boost. The change in him was incredible! His family said that it “brought back our old Ian pre-illness!!” and that it had made a “huge difference” to him. Having seen himself how much better he felt on holiday, Ian dreamed that he might be able to go on another cruise, but this time somewhere slightly more “hot”!

The Caribbean was the perfect location for Ian’s relaxing break in the sunshine, allowing him to leave behind the worries about his health, and instead just chill out and soak up some rays! Ian went with his parents, his step-sister and also his friend George, for what was “an amazing two weeks” cruising around the Caribbean in style with P&O Cruises.

The weather did not disappoint either, nor did the sparkling aqua-marine colour of the water – it was more than warm enough to go in wearing just shorts… not quite what you’d get in autumn back home!

In fact, a huge highlight of the trip for Ian was going swimming with turtles and seeing them up close, moving alongside him in the water. At night he swapped his snorkel for his suit, dressing up smart in a tuxedo to enjoy dinner on board the boat with his family and George. A very relaxing fortnight!

“We would all like to say a very big thank you for really making a dream come true for Ian. We had an amazing 2 weeks with him and it was great to see him really enjoying himself and having such fun.

Please express our gratitude to all concerned with making this dream happen.”

Ian’s parents, Jo & Ray
