When one dream becomes three
When prisoners and staff at HMP Greenock decided they wanted to raise some money for a deserving charity they decided to do a mass cycle in the gym at the prison to raise funds for us.
It was hoped that several hundred pounds could be raised but little did they know that thanks to their own efforts, plus those of friends and local businesses and with the help of Barclays Bank, the funds raised meant that not one but three dreams could be helped to come true as the sum raised totalled £3,468.66 … a magnificent achievement.
‘All at the prison were keen to help this venture,’ said Prison Governor William Stuart ‘and we are all delighted at the result. It is great to combine to give something back to the community and to help three young people in need of their own dreams to come true. Many thanks are due to all who took part in this fundraising event.’
The funds raised will not only help with the sensory equipment for Clare but also help to make dreams come true for two Greenock youngsters … Emma who recently with her parents visited the Festival of Speed event at Goodwood and Holly who has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and who will also receive special sensory equipment.
Local Dreams Come True Co-ordinator Chris Jewell said, ‘We are thrilled at the total raised which means three dreams can come true. I love the fact that in setting out to help one youngster we have managed to help three. We cannot thank all at the prison enough, Barclays Bank and also our friends at Inverclyde Leisure for making this happen.’ Jacqueline Cairnie from Barclays said ‘Barclays staff were delighted to have taken part and to have helped make three dreams come true’ while Kieron Vango, Chief Executive at Inverclyde Leisure added, ‘All at Inverclyde Leisure were pleased to be part of this fundraising challenge and delighted at its outcome.’
Chris said, ‘Thanks are also due to the team at Halfords in Greenock who donated a bike and other equipment and to Booker Cash & Carry for bottles of water to keep us all hydrated during the challenge.’
