Dreams Come True

‘Millie’s Hockey Masterclass’ raises money for local children.

Year 6 Churchers College Junior School pupil Millie Cooke-Priest wanted to offer years 3 to 6 a fun introduction to a series of sports that they may not have tried before – the first of which was her hockey masterclass. All in aide of help more children achieve their dreams.

International hockey stars Nikki Lloyd and Mo Rahman teamed up with head of hockey at Churcher’s College Kevin Maguire, and Rob Dilworth, to bring a series of stick and ball drills that catered for every ability level, from complete beginner to those that play regularly.

The afternoon finished with some match play with all the coaches taking part.

Millie has two further masterclasses, a tri-a-tri event and an intro to archery day being held in the summer term.

She hopes to raise more money for Dreams Come True, while inspiring her fellow pupils to get involved in different sports.

Millie’s mother, Charlie Cooke-Priest, said: “Millie chose to support Dreams Come True because it’s a local children’s charity that works hard to enrich the lives of children and young people with serious and life-limiting conditions aged between two and 21 years old, so she felt it was very relevant to support other children doing something she loves, sport.

“The triathlon and archery are the other activities of her sporting initiative for the pupils of CCJS.

“Millie has about 60 entered for the triathlon and the whole school participating in the archery, so it will be quite a task.”
