Our biggest event of the year was bigger than ever!
What a day! The sun was out, the temperature was perfect and we had a team of amazing Dreams Come True runners taking on the 26.2 mile challenge that is the Virgin Money London Marathon.
For the staff and volunteers at Dreams Come True the day starts very early as we set up our three cheer points along the course. The Virgin Money London Marathon is one of our biggest fundraisers. We all love getting behind the team and supporting on the day as we know all the hard work of our runners will make a difference to so many children.
With the staff and volunteers all set up at the cheer points and the prep for the after party getting underway there was only one thing missing; the runners. First, the wheelchair athletes came storming through followed by the elite men and women. The crowds on the pavements were already building at this point but it was nothing compared to when the masses started to appear. The atmosphere on the day is always spectacular with so many people running and supporting for so many different reasons.
Our marathon team was our biggest to date with over 50 runners supporting Dreams Come True. The team included dream parents and supporters both long-term and new. The day also saw the debut of our brand new running vests which the team all wore with pride and they looked great. It was great to see so many white vests in a sea of coloured charity tops.
Katie Jones, Events Co-ordinator, looks after our marathon team right from the moment they sign up with fundraising and training tips. Katie said, “I am so proud of our team this year. They have raised a huge amount so far for Dreams Come True and I have enjoyed supporting all of them on their marathon journeys. From everyone at Dreams Come True I want to say a huge thank you for everything you have done and I hope you enjoyed your marathon experience.”
If you would like to join the Dreams Come True marathon team in 2018 email Katie.
