Tim's 12 marathons in 12 months
In April and May 2016 I had 2 marathons booked quite close together, I’d never run 2 races so close together before so I saw this as a challenge and decided I could make it into something even bigger which is where the idea of 12 marathons in 12 months came from. I found organised races and with limited free weekends the challenge turned into running 12 marathons in the calendar year, in order to accomplish this I ran 2 marathons within a week and I completed the challenge by running 2 marathons in 2 days. I chose to support DCT as I wanted to raise money for a small local charity, I used to live in Liphook and still go back regularly to visit my parents. My wife and I have 2 young children so when I read about the work DCT do I wanted to help in any way I could so we set up a Just Giving Page.
My runs combined a mixture of trail and road running, I consumed a total of 56 energy gels, worn out 2 pairs of trainers and have been through a few blister patches. I ran a midnight marathon across the South Downs, using my head torch to light the way, finishing with a bowl of chilli at 4am. My favourite run was the Sussex marathon, described as one of the toughest in Britain it was very hilly but offered beautiful scenery and felt good. I also chose a good race to finish with as the I was given the biggest medal and a Christmas beer at the end of the Portsmouth marathon. What does 2017 hold? Well if I can run 2 marathons in 2 days is it possible to run 2 in 1 day?
