Hamleys launches Christmas at Dreams Come True!
It’s officially Christmas at Dreams Come True!
What better way to kick-start Christmas than a closed door party at the biggest toy shop in the world?!
Yesterday, Sunday 13th November, was the date of our very special dream party at Hamleys!
Hundreds of very excited children and their families, as well as supporters and ambassadors, braved the chilly early morning air and headed to the Regent Street store, brimming with anticipation for what they knew was going to be a magical morning!
As the clock struck ten, the countdown chants reached zero and the Hamleys doors were opened to reveal a red carpet, storm troopers, princesses and even some life-size toy camels! The Hamleys Bear was also there, as well as five floors of entertainment and thousands of boxes of toys. A big thank you to UK Garrison for providing the Star Wars characters, and also to the very regal Princesses Jess Singer and Grace Chapman from Pure Imagination Parties.
It was incredible to see so many smiles and mesmorised faces as, one by one, families made their way into the store. Characters were on hand to give out stickers, high fives and lots of hugs! Once inside the store, it was a case of where to go first. A tough decision, but the live demonstrations, including how to 'make your own snow', were definitely a huge hit!
Those that ventured down to the bottom floor had the chance to meet Father Christmas, faithfully accompanied by his elves, and receive a Hamleys giftbag filled with goodies to take home. On the other floors there were lots of toys to try out, and the chance to meet lots of famous characters in real life. Our ambassador Georgie Hermitage also brought along her Paralympic gold and silver medals, which proved to be a huge hit with the enthralled crowd!
We also filmed people telling us what they want for Christmas, as part of our #AllIWantForChristmas appeal. Answers ranged from holidays, puppies, various Hamleys products, to worldwide peace and love!
Thank you to Kevin Latter from The Cake Store for providing the life size, edible version of the winning cake from our 'design a cake' competition, won by six-year-old Zoe, whose brother Jake had a dream in 2008 and swam with dolphins in Florida. Lexington Catering also provided a fantastic spread of food, including sandwiches, scones and chocolate dipped strawberries.
It was fantastic to meet so many Dream children and have so many Dream families and supporters in once place.
It was a wonderful morning celebrating Dreams Come True, which really wouldn't have been possible without the help of our supporters. A big thank you to those who gave up their time to volunteer and to those who kindly sponsored the event, including Commodity Appointments, and of course Omar and the Hamleys staff.
