Dreams Come True

A cup of tea with Alfie

Alfie's dream has been fulfilled!

Alfie, aged 12, is a very keen Minecraft player and so he really wanted to meet top ‘YouTuber’ Joe Garret, better known by his online name Stampy Longnose. Joe has over seven million followers and his videos have been viewed more than five billion times!  Joe plays Minecraft, as well as writing books, and encourages the creative side of it.

Alfie was diagnosed with spinal tumours last year and in December underwent a major operation to remove them, as they were posing a danger to his spinal cord. He is now under observation, including having MRIs of his chest to make sure nothing spreads elsewhere. Alfie is currently in good health and very active… evidenced by fact that he broke his leg falling sideways off a trampoline only a few days before his dream!

The meet was arranged by our Dream Co-ordinator Siobhan, and took place at the ‘Game Over’ café in Portsmouth. Joe was really generous with his time and very good company. Initially Alfie was very shocked at meeting his hero! But after the shock had passed, he got down to playing minecraft with Joe and it was as if they had known each other for years!

The dream was exactly what Alfie wanted and he said he was so pleased. Joe also enjoyed it too! The venue was perfect - it had sofas and big screens, as well as retro game consoles, so it was also a trip down memory lane for Alfie’s parents! Thank you to Joe and to Steve at Game Over for helping Alfie’s dream come true.

A big thank you also to our corporate partner Bella Italia who kindly delivered ice cream to the cafe whilst Alfie was gaming, and then later hosted the family for free.
