A cup of tea with Caroline
Congratulations to our supporter Caroline Wren who completed the Great South Run last Sunday!
Afterwards Caroline spoke to us about her running experience and her motivations for getting involved with the charity:
1) Describe your event and why you chose to do this particular one?
I chose to take part in the Great South Run, which is quite a famous 10 mile road race. I have always had a dream of running this event, so at the beginning of the year I decided to take the plunge.
2) How long did it take to organise and plan?
I contacted Dreams Come True in February, and they gave me all of the information necessary to book my place. Throughout my training I had contact with Katie at Dreams Come True who was always very encouraging and helpful. Training wise, I signed up to the Great Run training plan and started from there.
3) How did you feel on the day?
I woke up feeling incredibly nervous, although I had completed some longer runs this was going to be the furthest distance I’d ever attempted. I had a read through some of the recent fulfilled dreams before the day arrived, to remind myself why I had decided to run in the first place.
4) Describe how you felt in three words.
Emotional, Inspired and Happy.
5) Most memorable moment?
Meeting Karen (a fellow Dreams Come True fundraiser) at the start line, a friendly hug stopped my last minute nerves and set me off on the right path for the rest of the race.
6) Any tips for others doing the same thing?
Make sure you take in the amazing atmosphere, the crowds are amazing and really get you through the latter miles.
7) Anything else you would like to share?
A huge thank you to Dreams Come True Charity for enabling me to raise money for such a worthy cause and for supporting and encouraging me whilst I also achieved my goal.
