A cup of tea with Demi
During our college course we have a volunteering class, within this class we got split into groups and had to choose a charity of our choice and what we'd like to do to raise money for them.
Our group choose Dreams Come True because what they do is really inspirational. We had a talk from Claire at Dreams Come True during our first block of volunteering and heard some amazing story's of how they have helped children with serious or life limiting conditions which touched us all and showed how much impact they have on the child and families life.
Our event was held on the 19th of May at North East Scotland College we had a raffle at £3 per strip which included our big prizes that was generously donated by companies, we also had a tombola at £1 for 3 tickets and if your ticket ended in a 0 or a 5 you won a prize which had been gathered by all group members and their family and friends.
Two of the group members made a pin the tail on the donkey which was 50p a go and if the tail was pinned on a certain area you won a bar of chocolate! we managed to raise £423.15 for Dreams Come True which we are all proud of.
To get our big prizes our group emailed a lot of companies and went round stores asking for donations, for the smaller ones we gathered some unwanted gifts or unopened bath sets that were around the house and asked our family and friends if they had anything they didn't need/want and would like to donate.
The group members included Demi Sharp, Shannon Gray, Sarah Wardrope, Nicola Fraser, Barbara Walker, Keri Nicol, Laima Laimuze, Sherrie Shand and Mia-Ruby Anderson.Become a volunteer? »
